beauty in art

Maria and Child are almost invisible but kept an air of calm and serenity (standing in Museo Nazionale di San Matteo, Pisa)

Her smile is cheeky and knowing – only half listening to the old woman’s words, she is looking back at the observer – no fear or subservience in her (part of a drawing inside the Santa Maria Assunta, the Cathederal of Pisa)

my favourite:
a female dancer carved into an antique sarcophagus – so articulated and free in her movement, one can see the joy, the strength and the flow in it. as if she is about to free herself from the stone (the sarcophagus stands in the northern hallway of Camposanto Monumentale, Pisa)
